Amsterdam: Secrets of the Champion's Book

Amsterdam: Secrets of the Champion's Book

Difficulty: ▰▰▰▱▱
Route: 3 km
Duration: 2 h

Amsterdam knows how to keep secrets. Somewhere between quiet streets, the Olympic Stadium and sporting stories, the pages of the “Champion's Book” are hidden. Find them and help young athlete Emma win the bike race.

Amsterdam: Gold of the Western Islands

Amsterdam: Gold of the Western Islands

Difficulty: ▰▰▱▱▱
Route: 3.2 km
Duration: 2.5 h

On Amsterdam's Western Islands, among former warehouses and canals, live stories from many centuries. Here the gold is scattered not “at the end of the road” but right along it. Read the signs and find the coins before the city hides them again.

A warm-up riddle

At the top of the Rijksmuseum's south facade stand four figures. They look like ordinary workers: a stonemason, a farmer, a sailor, a carpenter. Or are they? Who is really up there on the facade?

This riddle is outside our route. But the quest locations have plenty of others — to find, to count, to decode. Some easier, some harder. So you stroll while you play.

Take a hint

Count not the people, but what they hold.

Reveal the answer

The answer unlocks inside the bot during the real quest 🙂

A sample quest fact

Strolling along a busy Amsterdam street, you might walk past a small white stone built into a lock. A pity — it's the reference point for the entire Dutch height system (NAP). The stone was placed in 1682 by order of mayor Johannes Hudde, so future generations would know how high to raise the dikes.

This exact fact isn't in our quest. But there are others — with far richer descriptions. Want fewer facts and more riddles? Just skip the story and tune the format to yourself!

What you won't find in the quest

They say Amsterdam's Schreierstoren tower was nicknamed the “Weeping Tower” because wives saw their husbands off to sea and wept here. A lovely story. Only it's made up.

In fact the name comes not from “to weep” (schreien) but from “sharp angle” (schrey) — the tower stood on a sharp corner of the old city wall.

There are no such “facts” in our quest. We checked and double-checked everything. No tall tales for effect — and that doesn't make the story dull. Something to add or correct? We'd love to hear it!

“Secrets of the Champion's Book”

We did the quest as a family with a teenager. It was so engaging. Great balance of riddles — different difficulty, but all solvable. We loved the storyline and the facts that are genuinely interesting to learn. We walked about 2 hours and didn't notice the time: laughing, debating answers, sometimes falling silent over the people tied to these places. The full range of emotions!

Thank you so much! Everything was super cool. Special thanks for taking on board all the feedback from the previous quest. This time there's nothing left to wish for — except that the 3rd quest comes out soon ☺️

Thanks to the creators — my friend and I had a wonderful time and learned a lot about the area where I lived for half a year. Amazing! In my view there's no better way for a relaxed walk around the city. Looking forward to new quests!

“Secrets of the Champion's Book”

We loved it! Did the whole quest in one go and only came to after finishing the 12th task. It made me want to look at the city more closely. The route is well chosen — points close together, yet we walked about 3 km without noticing. No overload of facts, lovely delivery, and a day later I realise I remembered new things without cramming. The difficulty was spot on.

I liked it! Interesting and educational. A great choice of neighbourhood — I'd practically never been there. A little tricky with the coloured panels, they were overgrown with vines 😁

I enjoyed the quest, it was fun — the concept with the girl's story, the quotes and the riddles. I also really liked the new facts I didn't even know. Great to discover something new.

Valeria
“Gold of the Western Islands”

A very interesting, educational quest that tells the city's history in an engaging way and leads through a beautiful part of Amsterdam. A great way to make a walk more meaningful and learn something new! I loved the tasks and stories — 2.5 hours just flew by!

“Gold of the Western Islands”

Everything was great. Even the kids enjoyed searching for things. The Dutchness of Barents was a shock for the adults. The Western Islands are a fantastic area — I'd only driven through a couple of streets before, never inside, and it turned out wonderful.

We did the quest as a family and loved it 🥰 A quest is way cooler than just a walk: we learned so much I wouldn't know where else to find it. And my daughter loved solving riddles — it was her first quest ever!

A really cool route. You can feel the author loves what they do and wanted to share as much of the city as the quest time allows. We appreciated the choice of objects that reveal so much about the city!

Our family did the quest and we're very happy. It isn't aimed specifically at kids, but ours (8 and 10) were really into it! I personally visited places in Amsterdam I'd never been to and learned new facts. A wonderful way to spend 2.5 hours.

I was lucky to take part in this work, and it was useful for my own knowledge of the area too. There are many person-hours and kilometres in this quest, and I'm so glad the idea came to life!
